Studio setup guides I don’t have a website

Put Studio in a free Cloudflare account

No website, no domain and no hosting? Studio can run in a free Cloudflare account that belongs to you. Your share links then live on an address that looks like this: snaps.yourname.workers.dev

Best for
People with no website, or with a website on Wix, Squarespace or Shopify.
You need
Maxisnap for Windows or Mac, signed in with the account that has Studio; an email address for Cloudflare; a card or PayPal, in case Cloudflare asks for one before it turns storage on; and an AI coding assistant on your computer, or a terminal with Node.js 20 or newer.
Time
About 20 minutes the first time.
You get
A private library and branded share links on an address ending in workers.dev. You can add your own domain later without losing anything.
Cost
Studio is built to run on Cloudflare’s free plan. Cloudflare publishes R2’s current free allowance and prices.

How this route works

You create a free Cloudflare account and turn its storage on. Then an AI coding assistant on your computer, such as Claude Code, Codex or Cursor, uses the deploy tool in the Studio download to create your Studio, and asks you before each change.

The deploy tool creates three things in your account: the Studio app (Cloudflare calls it a Worker), storage for your captures (R2) and a small database for your library and team (D1). Nothing else in the account changes. Comfortable in a terminal? Run the same tool yourself with the developer guide.

Create your Cloudflare account

  1. Open Cloudflare’s sign-up page in your browser: dash.cloudflare.com/sign-up
  2. Use an email address you check every day. A work address is fine. Pick a strong password and keep it somewhere safe.
  3. Confirm your email: Cloudflare sends a link. Click it before you go on, or some steps will be refused. Check your spam folder if it does not arrive.
  4. You can skip Cloudflare’s questions about adding a website. You don’t need one.
What you’ll see Cloudflare’s sign-up page asks for your email address and a password. Afterwards Cloudflare may ask what you want to do first; you can skip that.

Turn on storage

Your screenshots and videos are stored in Cloudflare R2. Turn it on once for your account:

  1. In the Cloudflare dashboard, open Storage & databases → R2 → Overview.
  2. Complete Cloudflare’s checkout to add R2 to your account. Add a card or PayPal if Cloudflare asks.

Your Studio dashboard shows how much storage you use. Cloudflare's R2 documentation, read in October 2026, says R2 is free to get started with included free monthly usage, and that you are billed for your usage on a monthly basis.

What you’ll see Cloudflare’s R2 overview page, with a button to add R2 to your account and, if Cloudflare asks, a form for a card or PayPal.

Get Studio on your computer

  • On Windows: in Maxisnap, open Settings → Account → Maxisnap Studio setup wizard, click “Get started”, then “Download dashboard”. Maxisnap saves the Studio ZIP to your Downloads folder and opens that folder.
  • On a Mac: in Maxisnap, open Settings → Welcome & Help → Studio Setup Guide, click “Get Started”, then “Download Dashboard”. Maxisnap saves the Studio ZIP to your Downloads folder.

Extract the ZIP. On Windows, right-click it and choose “Extract All”. On a Mac, double-click it.

Want your logo and colours from the start? Double-click “Maxisnap Studio - Start Here.html”, design your branding and click “Lock in my branding”. Your assistant uses it. Or skip it and change the branding later in your dashboard under Branding.

What you’ll see The extracted Studio folder: three folders (cloudflare, docs and snaps), the Start Here page and the instructions for AI assistants.

Hand it to your AI assistant

  1. Open your AI coding assistant: Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or another one that can run commands on your computer.
  2. Copy the ready-made instructions from the AI assistant guide, replace the line in angle brackets with your Studio folder, and paste them in.
  3. Tell it that you have no website and want the free Cloudflare edition. It reads the instructions file in your Studio folder and explains each step before it does it.

Get the ready-made instructions.

The deploy tool needs Node.js 20 or newer on your computer; your assistant can check whether it is there. The instructions tell your assistant to ask you before it creates anything, and not to delete or replace anything that is already in your account.

Create a Cloudflare key when your assistant asks

The deploy needs permission to create your Studio in your account. You give it with a Cloudflare API token, which works like a password for this one job.

  1. In Cloudflare, open My Profile → API Tokens, click “Create Token” and choose to create a custom token.
  2. Add these four permissions: Account Settings Read, Workers Scripts Edit, Workers R2 Storage Edit and D1 Edit.
  3. Click “Continue to summary”, then “Create Token”. Cloudflare shows the token only once, so copy it straight away.
  4. When your assistant asks for it, paste the token into the terminal yourself, not into the chat.

Open Cloudflare’s API Tokens page.

Once your Studio is running you can delete the token. Your Studio keeps working; updating or removing it later needs a new token with the same permissions.

What you’ll see Cloudflare’s token page: one row for each permission, and a “Continue to summary” button at the bottom.

Pick your Studio’s address

  1. Tell your assistant a Studio name with lowercase letters, numbers and dashes. The default is snaps.
  2. If your Cloudflare account has no workers.dev name yet, the plan asks for one and your assistant asks you. It is shared by everything in this account and hard to change later, so your company name is a good choice.

Your address will look like this: snaps.yourcompany.workers.dev

You can add your own domain later without losing anything.

Check the plan, then create your Studio

Nothing is created until you say yes. Your assistant first runs the plan and shows it to you. “Will create” lists one Worker, one R2 bucket and one D1 database, plus your workers.dev name if it is new. “Will not touch” lists everything else in the account.

  1. When the plan looks right, tell your assistant to go ahead. Creating your Studio takes about a minute.
  2. If the deploy stops part-way, running the same command again continues from where it stopped without creating anything twice.
What you’ll see Your assistant shows the plan: the Studio address, then “Will create” and “Will not touch”.

Save your Admin key

  1. When it is done, the deploy shows your Studio’s address and its Admin key, once. Keep the key somewhere safe, like your password manager. You sign in to your dashboard with it, and anyone who has it can use your Studio.
  2. It also writes a file called deployment.json in the cloudflare folder. Keep that file, because updating or removing your Studio later uses it.

Connect Maxisnap and try it

  • Maxisnap for Windows: open Settings → Account → Maxisnap Studio setup wizard, click “Get started”, then “Next” until step 4, “Connect Maxisnap”. Paste your Studio’s address and key, click “Test connection”, then “Next”, then “Finish & Save” on the last page. The Admin key from setup works, and so does an upload code from People & access in your dashboard.
  • Maxisnap for Mac: open Settings → Welcome & Help → Studio Setup Guide and choose “I already have a dashboard”. Paste your Studio’s address and key, click “Test Connection”, then “Next”, then “Finish & Save”.

Capture something and click “Upload” in the editor. On Windows, Ctrl+Alt+7 captures a region and uploads it straight away. The share link lands on your clipboard.

Maxisnap for Windows and Maxisnap for Mac send each upload to a Cloudflare Studio in one request, which it accepts up to 25 MB per file.

Next steps: add your team in the dashboard under People & access (everyone gets their own code and role), and change your logo or colours any time under Branding.

If something goes wrong

Cloudflare wants you to verify your email first

Cloudflare needs you to verify your email address first. Check your inbox for Cloudflare’s email, click the link, then try again.

Open the email Cloudflare sent when you signed up and click its link. If it is not in your inbox, check your spam folder. Then try the same step again.

Cloudflare is still reviewing your new account

Cloudflare is still reviewing this new account. This usually clears within a day; try again later.

Cloudflare checks some new accounts before they can create anything. Nothing is wrong with your setup. Wait, then try again; anything already created is kept.

Storage is not turned on

R2 storage is not turned on for this Cloudflare account yet.

Turn R2 on in the Cloudflare dashboard, as in step 2, then ask your assistant to run the plan again.

Cloudflare asks for a card or PayPal

That is expected. Cloudflare may ask for a card or PayPal before it turns R2 on, even if you stay within its free allowance. Your Studio dashboard shows how much storage you use, so you can keep an eye on it.

The Studio name is already in use

A Worker named “snaps” already exists in this account. Pick another name; Studio never replaces someone else’s Worker.

Tell your assistant another name, such as snaps-yourcompany. If a storage or database name is taken, the deploy tool picks the next free one by itself.

The workers.dev name is taken

That workers.dev name is taken. Pick another one.

Someone else already uses that name. Try your company name with a word added, such as yourcompany-studio. It becomes part of every address in this Cloudflare account, so pick one you are happy to keep.

Cloudflare refused a step

Cloudflare refused this step: the connection does not have permission for it. Reconnect Cloudflare and approve every permission Studio asks for.

The token is missing a permission. Create a new token with the permissions from step 5 and paste it into the terminal again when your assistant asks.

Setup stopped part-way

Ask your assistant to run the same deploy command again. It continues from where it stopped and does not create anything twice.

Your new address does not open yet

Studio did not come online in time (HTTP 404). Cloudflare can take a few minutes to publish a new address; try again shortly.

Everything is created; Cloudflare is still switching the address on. Wait a few minutes, then open the address again.

You lost your Admin key

Your assistant can set a new one. It runs this command from the cloudflare folder of your Studio download, with a Cloudflare token in the terminal. The command shows the new key once; then connect Maxisnap again with it.

node deploy/cli.mjs update --record deployment.json --yes --new-admin-key

Large videos do not upload

Maxisnap for Windows and Maxisnap for Mac send each upload to a Cloudflare Studio in one request, which it accepts up to 25 MB per file.

Keep recordings under that size, or trim them before you upload.

Maxisnap says the key is not right

Copy the key again from where you saved it, without spaces before or after it. Check the address too: it is the one setup showed you, starting with https://.

Share links show “Error 1027”

Your Studio reached the daily request limit of Cloudflare’s free plan. The limit resets at midnight UTC. Opening a share link uses about two requests.

Still need help?

Email us and a person will write back, usually within one business day. These details help us answer in one go:

  • The setup option you chose and the step you are on.
  • A screenshot of the screen, with any error message in full.
  • Where your Studio is going: a new or existing Cloudflare account, or the name of your web hosting company.
  • Your Maxisnap version: on Windows in Settings, then About; on a Mac under Maxisnap, then About Maxisnap.

Please don’t send your Admin key, a Cloudflare key or a password. We don’t need them to help you.
