Studio setup guides My AI assistant will set it up

Let your AI assistant set up Studio

An AI coding assistant on your computer, such as Claude Code, Codex or Cursor, can put Studio online for you. You paste ready-made instructions. Your assistant reads Studio’s own setup guide, works out with you whether your web hosting or a Cloudflare account fits best, and asks before it changes anything.

Best for
People who already use an AI coding assistant that can run commands on their computer, for either kind of Studio: on web hosting or in Cloudflare.
You need
Maxisnap for Windows or Mac, signed in with the account that has Studio; an AI coding assistant on your computer; and your hosting login or a Cloudflare account.
Time
Mostly hands-off: you answer your assistant’s questions and approve each change.
You get
The same Studio as the other setup options, on your web hosting or in your own Cloudflare account.

What your assistant follows

Every Studio download contains instructions written for AI assistants. They explain both editions of Studio, the exact install steps, what must stay private and how to check the result. They also tell your assistant to:

  • Ask you before every upload, deployment or change to a server or an account, and say exactly what it will change.
  • Never delete, overwrite or rename what is already there: website files, DNS records, Workers, buckets or databases. Studio only adds new things.
  • Keep keys and passwords out of the files it creates.
  • Give you the Studio address and the Admin key at the end, so you can connect Maxisnap.

Get Studio on your computer

  • On Windows: in Maxisnap, open Settings → Account → Maxisnap Studio setup wizard, click “Get started”, then “Download dashboard”. Maxisnap saves the Studio ZIP to your Downloads folder and opens that folder.
  • On a Mac: in Maxisnap, open Settings → Welcome & Help → Studio Setup Guide, click “Get Started”, then “Download Dashboard”. Maxisnap saves the Studio ZIP to your Downloads folder.

Extract the ZIP. On Windows, right-click it and choose “Extract All”. On a Mac, double-click it.

Copy the location of the extracted folder; you paste it in step 3. On Windows, right-click the folder and choose “Copy as path”. On a Mac, select the folder and press Option+Command+C.

The instructions file for AI assistants is in that folder:

AGENTS.md

What you’ll see The extracted Studio folder: three folders (cloudflare, docs and snaps), the Start Here page and the instructions for AI assistants.

Lock in your branding, if you like

Double-click “Maxisnap Studio - Start Here.html”, design your logo, colours and fonts, and click “Lock in my branding”. Your assistant uses it. You can also skip this and change the branding later in your dashboard under Branding.

Copy the instructions

Copy these instructions, replace the line in angle brackets with your Studio folder, and paste them into your assistant.

Set up Maxisnap Studio for me.

Maxisnap Studio is a self-hosted dashboard for the screenshots and screen recordings the Maxisnap desktop app uploads: a private library plus branded share links. It comes in two editions with the same features: a PHP app for ordinary web hosting, and a Cloudflare Worker that uses R2 and D1.

Everything is in this folder on my computer:
<the folder where I extracted the Studio download>

Start by reading AGENTS.md in that folder. It explains both editions, the exact install steps, what must stay private, and how to check the result.
If I locked in my branding, it is in snaps.zip; AGENTS.md says what to do if it is missing.

Goal: Work out with me whether the PHP edition (my web hosting) or the Cloudflare Workers edition fits my setup, then install it.

Rules:
- Ask me before you upload, deploy, or change anything on a server or in an account, and tell me exactly what you will change.
- Never delete, overwrite or rename existing website files, DNS records, Workers, buckets or databases. Studio only adds new things.
- Keep keys and passwords out of files you create and out of chat transcripts where you can.
- When it works, give me the Studio address and the Admin key so I can connect the Maxisnap app (on Windows, Settings, Account, Maxisnap Studio setup wizard, step 4; on a Mac, Settings, Welcome & Help, Studio Setup Guide, “I already have a dashboard”).

Answer your assistant’s questions

  1. Tell it where your website is: on web hosting (cPanel, hPanel, Plesk and so on), on Cloudflare, or nowhere yet. With no website, the Cloudflare edition is the safe choice.
  2. For web hosting, it tells you what to upload and where, or uploads it for you if you give it access to your hosting.
  3. For Cloudflare, it asks you for a Cloudflare API token. Create the token in Cloudflare under My Profile → API Tokens with the permissions your assistant lists, and paste it into the terminal yourself.

See the Cloudflare account, storage and token steps in the free Cloudflare account guide.

Check its plan before you say yes

Before a Cloudflare deploy, your assistant shows you the plan. “Will create” lists one Worker, one R2 bucket and one D1 database, and “Will not touch” lists everything else in the account. On web hosting, it tells you which folder it will add. Say yes only when the list looks right.

What you’ll see Your assistant’s summary of what it will create and what it leaves alone, waiting for your yes.

Connect Maxisnap and try it

When it works, your assistant gives you your Studio’s address and its Admin key. Keep the key somewhere safe, like your password manager.

  • Maxisnap for Windows: open Settings → Account → Maxisnap Studio setup wizard, click “Get started”, then “Next” until step 4, “Connect Maxisnap”. Paste your Studio’s address and key, click “Test connection”, then “Next”, then “Finish & Save” on the last page. The Admin key from setup works, and so does an upload code from People & access in your dashboard.
  • Maxisnap for Mac: open Settings → Welcome & Help → Studio Setup Guide and choose “I already have a dashboard”. Paste your Studio’s address and key, click “Test Connection”, then “Next”, then “Finish & Save”.

Capture something and click “Upload” in the editor. On Windows, Ctrl+Alt+7 captures a region and uploads it straight away. The share link lands on your clipboard.

Next steps: add your team in the dashboard under People & access (everyone gets their own code and role), and change your logo or colours any time under Branding.

If something goes wrong

Your assistant says it can’t open files or run commands

Use a coding assistant that runs on your computer and can work in a folder, such as Claude Code, Codex or Cursor. A chat in a browser tab can’t see your Studio folder or run the deploy tool.

Your assistant can’t find the instructions file

Check the folder you pasted into the instructions. It must be the extracted Studio folder, not the ZIP file, and it contains the instructions file for AI assistants.

Your assistant says Node.js is missing or too old

The Cloudflare deploy tool needs Node.js 20 or newer. Install the current LTS version from nodejs.org, or let your assistant install it after it tells you what it will do, then start again. Studio on web hosting does not need Node.js.

Your assistant asks you to paste a token or password into the chat

Paste it into the terminal instead, when the command asks for it, so it does not stay in the chat history. If you already pasted a Cloudflare token into the chat, delete it in Cloudflare under My Profile → API Tokens once your Studio is running, and create a new one when you next need it.

Your assistant wants to delete, replace or rename something

Say no. Studio only adds new things, and its instructions tell your assistant never to delete, overwrite or rename existing website files, DNS records, Workers, buckets or databases. Ask it to pick a new name instead.

Your assistant says your branding file is missing

You haven’t locked in branding yet. Open “Maxisnap Studio - Start Here.html”, design your branding and click “Lock in my branding”, or tell your assistant to go ahead with the Maxisnap look. You can change it later in your dashboard under Branding.

Your assistant’s final check answers 401 or 404

{"error":"unauthorized"}

401 means the key is wrong: use the Admin key exactly as setup showed it. 404, or a web page instead of a short answer, means the address or folder is wrong, or on web hosting that Studio’s .htaccess rules are being ignored.

The Cloudflare deploy stopped part-way

Ask your assistant to run the same deploy command again from the same folder. It reads deployment.json and continues from where it stopped without creating anything twice.

Maxisnap won’t connect with the address and key from your assistant

The address is the one you open your Studio dashboard at, starting with https://, such as https://yourcompany.com/snaps. Copy the key without spaces before or after it. The guide for connecting an existing Studio covers what each message means.

Still need help?

Email us and a person will write back, usually within one business day. These details help us answer in one go:

  • The setup option you chose and the step you are on.
  • A screenshot of the screen, with any error message in full.
  • Where your Studio is going: a new or existing Cloudflare account, or the name of your web hosting company.
  • Your Maxisnap version: on Windows in Settings, then About; on a Mac under Maxisnap, then About Maxisnap.

Please don’t send your Admin key, a Cloudflare key or a password. We don’t need them to help you.
