Numbered screenshot annotation is a technique where callouts labeled 1, 2, 3… are placed on a screenshot to walk a viewer through steps. Maxisnap's numbered tool auto-increments as you drop pins, re-sequences cleanly when you delete one from the middle, and exports with crisp typography — ideal for how-to docs, Jira tickets, onboarding guides, and product walkthroughs.

    Capture

    Press Ctrl+Alt+5 (region) or Ctrl+Alt+6 (full screen). The Maxisnap editor opens with your capture.

    Drop numbered pins

    Click the Numbered Pin tool in the toolbar. Click anywhere on the image to drop pin 1. Click again for 2, 3, 4, 5… The counter auto-increments. Delete a middle pin and the rest re-sequence automatically.

  3. 03

    Export or upload

    Ctrl+S to save locally. Ctrl+Alt+7 to upload and copy the URL. Numbers render as crisp typography in the exported PNG — no anti-aliasing mess.

How do I add numbered steps to a screenshot?

Capture with Ctrl+Alt+5, click the Numbered Pin tool, click on the image. Each click drops the next number in sequence.

What happens if I delete number 2 of 5?

The remaining pins re-sequence: what was 3 becomes 2, 4 becomes 3, 5 becomes 4. This was a v1.8.x bug, fixed in v1.8.2. Clean every release since.

Can I change the numbering style (letters, roman)?

Numeric (1, 2, 3) ships in v2.1.9. Alphabetic (A, B, C) and roman numerals are on the roadmap. For custom labels today, combine the Text tool with arrows.

Can numbered pins be repositioned?

Yes. Switch to the Select tool, click a pin, drag anywhere. Shift-drag constrains motion to horizontal/vertical.

Does it work on Mac?

macOS is experimental (v1.4.0-chatgpt). Stable macOS release with full annotation feature parity is coming. On Windows, numbered annotation is fully polished.
