For the classroom

One hotkey.
Zero student-data risk.

Free for teachers. Works offline. One-click blur keeps student names, emails, and grades out of every screenshot you share.

v2.1.9 · No account required · Works offline

Maxisnap is a free screenshot tool for teachers who demo software, annotate worksheets, or capture lesson visuals. A single hotkey (Ctrl+Alt+5) captures the screen; a one-click blur tool pixelates any student name, email, or grade before sharing.

Three classroom use cases

Real ways teachers actually use it

01

Demoing software

Capture a region of your screen during a live walkthrough — Google Classroom, a math manipulative, a science simulation — and paste it into your slide deck before the next class period.

Feature used: Ctrl+Alt+5 region capture, arrows + bold text, auto-copy to clipboard
02

Annotating worksheets

Screenshot a student's digital submission. Circle the problem area, add a numbered pin (1, 2, 3) with a short explanation, and email the annotated image back to them as homework feedback.

Feature used: Numbered pins, arrow tool, inline text, save-as-PNG
03

Sharing lesson feedback

Screenshot a gradebook page to show parents their child's progress — but drag the blur tool across the column of other students' names first. The rest of the sheet stays readable.

Feature used: Blur region, crop-to-visible, local-save (no cloud upload required)
The blur tool, explained

FERPA in mind, from a single drag

Teachers in the US are bound by FERPA; in Canada, FIPPA or PIPEDA; in the UK, GDPR. The common thread is: you cannot share screenshots that contain a student's name, email, grade, photo, or any identifying information outside the classroom context. The blur tool is the fastest way to comply.

Draw a rectangle with the blur tool over any region and it is pixelated irreversibly inside the image. The blur is composited into the PNG itself — not a layer that can be moved or deleted by a recipient opening the file. Version 1.9 added a fix that ensures blur pixelates any prior annotations too, so a name you already highlighted with an arrow won't leak through.

Frequently asked

Questions teachers ask

Is Maxisnap free for schools?

Yes. The free tier covers 100 cloud uploads per month plus unlimited local saves. No credit card, no school email verification. Pro ($4/month) removes the cloud cap but isn't necessary for most classroom use.

Does it work on school-issued laptops?

It installs as a standard Windows or macOS application. A portable build runs without admin rights from any user-writable folder if your IT locks down installers. Check the download page for the portable option.

Can I blur student names before sharing?

Yes. The blur tool pixelates any region you drag over. Use it on student names, emails, parent contact info, or grade columns before sharing with parents, colleagues, or posting to a class page.

Does it need an account for teachers?

No. An account is only needed if you want to use Maxisnap Cloud for share URLs. Local saves, clipboard copy, and upload to your school's own server all work without signing up.

Does it work offline (no wifi in classroom)?

Yes. Capture, annotate, save, and clipboard-copy work completely offline. Only the optional Cloud upload needs the internet. Everything else is local.

One tool. One hotkey. Every subject.

Free for teachers, free for students. Unlimited local saves, 100 cloud shares a month.
