Filenames that describe the shot

Open Settings > Preferences > File naming to choose among App + window title, Private, and Smart local. The default uses the captured application's name and window title. Smart local can add text from image annotations or on-device Windows OCR; Private ignores that context and uses a generic Maxisnap name plus a timestamp. The preference controls suggested Save As names and filenames supplied to uploads.

A timestamp tells you when a capture was made. Adding the app, window title, or available image text gives your file search more useful words to match. Maxisnap keeps the timestamp in every naming mode; it does not promise to identify an invoice number or select the most important words automatically.

Smart local is optional. For images, it prefers a short excerpt of annotation text, then Windows OCR text when available, and includes app/window context. If no useful image text is available, app/window context still supplies the name. Video names use app/window context rather than OCR. Naming runs locally and removes characters that cannot be used in Windows filenames.

Select Private in the File naming selector when a filename should not include a source-window title, annotation, or OCR text. New suggested names use Maxisnap plus a timestamp. Changing this preference does not rename files already saved or redact the image itself; check both the filename and exported content before sharing.
