Migrated.
Safely.
Dropbox Capture sunset in 2025. Maxisnap is the drop-in replacement — instant share links, annotation, Windows and Mac.
Maxisnap is the drop-in Dropbox Capture replacement for Windows and Mac. The capture flow, instant share-link behavior, and annotation tools are all preserved, with the added safety that Maxisnap's active development and monthly releases mean the tool won't be sunset the way Capture was. Migration takes under ten minutes.
Four steps to safe migration
- 00:00
Install Maxisnap
Download the 64 MB installer for Windows or Mac. Install takes about a minute. No account required to start.
- 02:00
Set your default share destination
Open Settings → Upload. Pick Maxisnap Cloud for a zero-setup share link, or configure SFTP/S3 to host on your own domain.
- 05:00
Re-upload critical Capture links
Any Dropbox Capture links embedded in active documentation or tickets should be re-hosted. Drag the saved image into Maxisnap's editor, press the upload button, paste the new link back into the doc.
- 10:00
Uninstall Dropbox Capture
Once your workflow is on Maxisnap and critical links are re-hosted, remove Capture from your machine. Hotkeys won't conflict afterward.

Dropbox Capture questions
Did Dropbox Capture shut down?
Yes. Dropbox ended active development and support in 2025. Existing installs may still work for a time, but there are no more features, patches, or support.
When did Dropbox Capture end?
Dropbox wound down Capture in early 2025. Exact dates and link-retention rules were emailed to active users. Migrate now to avoid disruption.
What happens to my existing Capture links?
Expect them to eventually stop resolving. Re-host important links via Maxisnap while Capture still works — drag the saved image into the editor, upload, replace the link.
Does Maxisnap integrate with Dropbox?
Indirectly — set Maxisnap's save directory to your Dropbox folder and the sync client handles the upload. For native share-link workflows, Maxisnap Cloud is built in.
Can I upload screenshots to my Dropbox folder via Maxisnap?
Yes — use the local Dropbox folder as your save path. For direct cloud uploads without the sync client, use Dropbox's S3-compatible API or Maxisnap Cloud.
