The Monosnap alternative
that still ships updates
Same Ctrl+Alt+5 hotkey. Same workflow. None of the freezing. Actively maintained, built by someone who actually uses it every day.
v2.1.5 · 64 MB · Windows 10/11 64-bit
I made Maxisnap because Monosnap stopped getting fixes. The memory leak nobody patched. The window focus bug that derailed every capture. The SFTP upload that silently dropped connections. For years I waited for an update that would fix any of it, and for years the only updates that shipped were new subscription tiers.
So I built a replacement. Same keyboard shortcuts — Ctrl+Alt+5 for region capture, Ctrl+Alt+6 for full screen, Ctrl+Alt+7 for region plus auto-upload. Same annotation tools: arrows, text, numbered pins, blur, crop, shapes. Same upload destinations: SFTP, FTP, S3, custom HTTP endpoints, or the built-in Maxisnap Cloud. If you switch today, your muscle memory keeps working.
The difference is that Maxisnap is actively maintained. Version 2.1.5 shipped in April 2026. Bugs get fixed. Crashes get investigated. Users can email and get a reply from the person writing the code.
What actually changes when you switch
Three steps, zero learning curve
- 01
Download the installer
Grab the 63 MB Windows installer from the download page. Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit. No account required.
- 02
Quit Monosnap before launching
Right-click the Monosnap tray icon and choose Quit. Both apps share the same default hotkeys, so running both at once will fight for the keyboard.
- 03
Hit Ctrl+Alt+5
That's it. Your first capture works immediately. If you need SFTP or S3 upload, open Settings → Upload and paste your existing server credentials.
Questions from Monosnap refugees
Will my existing SFTP server configuration work?
Yes. Host, port, username, password or private key, target directory, and base URL all map one-to-one. Ed25519 and ECDSA keys are supported in addition to RSA.
What happens to screenshots I already uploaded with Monosnap?
Nothing. Maxisnap doesn't touch the history or links from the old app. Anything already shared keeps working as long as Monosnap's cloud or your own server is still up.
Is there a macOS version?
An experimental macOS build exists but is not yet generally recommended. The Windows version is where the active work is. A stable macOS release is on the roadmap.
Ready to stop waiting for a Monosnap update?
Download Maxisnap, launch it, and take your first screenshot with the same hotkey you've used for years.
